Middleton, Verona, Madison Memorial Students To Participate In Chinese Celebration | Events
The inaugural Chinese New Year Celebration will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Madison Memorial High School.
Gerhard Fischer, an international education and world languages consultant for the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, and David Dettmann, an assistant director for outreach for the Center for East Asian Studies at UW-Madison, are scheduled to speak at the opening ceremony.
Chinese dumpling cooking demonstrations by students and local community members will follow along with other activities. Some of the activities include:
- Lion dance show
- Arts and crafts
- Calligraphy making
- Beijing Opera mask
- Making Panda puppets
- Making Chinese lanterns
After lunch, there will be an hour of student performances and presentations.
The event is free and the public and media are welcome to attend. Schools participating in the event include, Middleton High School, Verona Area International School (grades K-2), Madison Memorial High School, Waunakee High School and Oconomowoc Area (grades 5-7 and 12).
